A reference publication on Iberian and Mediterranean port operations
From the Editor · 15th year of publication
Since 2011, the Global South European Maritime Hub has documented the port operations, terminal infrastructure, and shipping economies of the Iberian-Mediterranean corridor. Our flagship publication is the Port of Algeciras Handbook — a continuing record of the largest port complex on the Strait of Gibraltar.
Featured Publication
The 2011 edition of the Port of Algeciras Handbook documents the port's infrastructure, operations, and statistical performance during a transitional year. It records traffic data from 2010 — the year Algeciras exceeded 70 million tonnes in total throughput and 2.8 million TEUs in container volume — and remains a reference point for understanding the port's modern development trajectory.
Originally published in a Flash-based interactive format that is no longer supported by modern browsers, the Handbook has been preserved here in a structured, accessible web edition. Content fidelity to the original 2011 source has been maintained where verifiable; statistical references describe the period under review (calendar year 2010), and editorial notes have been added where the modern context warrants clarification. The Handbook is cited by the English-language Wikipedia article on the Port of Algeciras as a primary source for the port's 2010 throughput figures.

The Global South European Maritime Hub is an independent reference publisher founded to document port industry developments along the Strait of Gibraltar corridor — a maritime geography that sits at the confluence of Atlantic and Mediterranean shipping, and at the interface between Europe and Africa. We do not represent any port authority, terminal operator, or shipping line. Editorial inquiries: contact.
